What if Inter had turned the market upside down with Icardi?

Negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan over Mauro Icardi may have set the tone for the market. And the Milan club could feel it very directly in the context of the transfer of Lautaro Martinez coveted by Barça.

Leonardo negotiated very finely with theInter Milan to lower the score from 70 to 50 million plus bonuses for the final recruitment of Mauro Icardi at Paris Saint Germain. A deal totally in tune with the times since the finances of the clubs are clearly in difficulty due to the Covid-19 and its consequences with the partial stoppage of the championships and the closed sessions to come in particular.

A transfer obviously watched by all of football Europe which could make it a reference in a rapidly changing market. Many imagine transfers at lower sums than in the past and in this sense, it could give ideas for other transactions.

Barça’s hesitation for Lautaro Martinez

Inter Milan could quickly verify this in the case of Lautaro Martinez that Barça hopes to recruit. The Milanese club does not want to facilitate the task of the blaugrana club for an attacker they would like to keep. An amount between 90 and 111 million remains mentioned for the Argentine and several Spanish media now relay the doubts of the Catalan leaders on the amount that should be settled for this transfer.

The comparison between Icardi and Lautaro Martinez has its limits since they do not necessarily have the same projections (age, future, performance) but Barça would still start to say that 111 million is huge in this period if complicated. A radical change of course which is surprising. But this would not be a first for the Blaugrana… Icardi recruited for 50 million and Lautaro Martinez sold more than 100 million, the market is still seeing double. The future will tell us if it was a negotiation well conducted by the PSG or a new reference standard.
