At 32, Juan Mata recently refused to leave Manchester United for Saudi Arabia, where a huge contract awaited him.
To say the least Juan Mata likes to Manchester United, where he arrived in 2014 from Chelsea. The Spanish attacking midfielder, now 32 years old, has been a mere understudy for the Red Devils for 3 seasons but greatly appreciates his role as a playmaker in his team’s “small” matches and especially as a big brother in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s locker room.
More than double his salary at MU!
Under contract until 2021, but with an exit voucher donated by his executives, the Real Madrid-trained southpaw has decided to honor his contract with MU to the end, despite a particularly lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. A club offered him to double his salary from 8 to 16 million euros net per year. Ace even revealed, Monday, that a second offer was made to him with a salary of 20 million!
By comparison, in the Premier League, David De Gea, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are said to be the three highest paid players in the English league, with salaries of around 23, 20 and 19 million euros respectively. At the end of the season, Juan Mata will probably have the opportunity to cash in a small jackpot in an “exotic” league or perhaps end his career in La Liga.
