As expected for several weeks, the European Cups will end in August with a Final 8. The Champions League Cup, held in Lisbon, will close on August 23.
The European Cups will have their epilogue well. As suggested by UEFA at the start of the spring, the Men’s and Women’s Champions League and the Europa League will indeed end in August once all the European championships which have not choices to stop the season will be completed, confirmed this noon the Spanish press while on Wednesday was held the Executive Committee of the European Confederation.
As for the Champions League, the return matches of the round of 16 still to be played (Bayern Munich-Chelsea, FC Barcelona-Naples, Juventus Turin-Lyon and Manchester City-Real Madrid) will be held on August 7 and 8 on the grounds of the teams supposed to receive. Forced to tighten the competition as much as possible, UEFA chose for the future to organize a Final 8 which will take place in Lisbon in the two stadiums of Benfica (Stade de la Luz) and Sporting (José Alvalade Stadium). The quarter-finals, for which the PSG, Leipzig, thereAtlético Madrid and theAtalanta Bergamo have already qualified, will take place on August 12, 13, 14 and 15, the semi-finals on August 18 and 19 and the final, which will take place in the Benfica stadium, will be held on August 23.
The principle is the same for the Europa League. If the round of 16 will take place classically by round-trip matches on the fields of the teams concerned, a Final 8 will be organized in Germany from August 10 to 21 in the stadiums of Cologne, Duisburg, Geselkirchen and Düsseldorf, the final to be held at Cologne.
Finally, the Women’s Champions League will also have the right to its Final 8. Organized in San Sebastien and Bilbao, it will be held from August 21 to 30, with PSG and Olympique Lyonnais as well.
