Is Google now bringing new People Cards into the SERPs? The first users have discovered the info snippets about their people in a new design.
Reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong found a new search or people card for her person in a Google search. This comes in a new design and Wong has shared her discovery with the community directly via Twitter:
People cards as more variable knowledge graphs?
Jane Manchun Wong had already received a knowledge panel on Google, since she can be considered a public figure in the digital scene. However, the knowledge panels are generated by Google itself using information available on the Internet.
In the meantime, information about Wong can also be found in a search or Google’s so-called People Card, which users can see at the top of the SERPs during mobile searches. Users can create these cards with information about themselves if they meet certain requirements. This includes, among other things, that the user has a Google account and has activated web & app activity. However, Google will not play all People Cards and emphasizes:
Google doesn’t guarantee that your card will show up on Google Search. The more info you provide in your card, the more likely it will show up in Google Search results.
Jane Manchun Wong – and also the user Leon Wehkamp – have now seen the search cards for their people in the new design on Google. Wong himself will be shown the options for editing the map and for clicking on more information. These are not visible to other users. Under the name of the person there is a (professional) designation, in Wong “Blogger”.
To the right of the name, searchers can also follow the person or share the map via social channel. Anyone who follows a person on Google receives news about them via Google Discover. In the People Card, you can switch between overview and videos, the first shows pictures of the person, the second provides videos in which they appear. At the bottom of the People Card there is a note about the training of the person.
It is noticeable that other people may be able to integrate even more content into the map. The musician Leon Wehkamp shows a version in which songs and links to music platforms are displayed.
However, Google has not yet issued an official report on any innovations. It can therefore initially be assumed that more variable versions of Google’s People Card are currently being tested. In order to find out more about individuals in the Google search, these are often more helpful than knowledge panels, which only provide information from Wikipedia and other sites. Because these people or search cards are created by the people themselves – and checked by Google.
