Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, the mayor of Madrid, has applied to host the Champions League final, which is slated to be played at the Atatürk stadium in Istanbul in late August.
” I know that arrangements are being made, and I would like to declare the town hall’s absolute support for this Champions League final if it could take place in Madrid, dixit the first city councilor in words relayed by Marca. We have the right security, we have the infrastructure and the necessary public services, and that would send the message to the world that despite the tragedy we have been through, Madrid is not giving up and going up the hill. “
More than a final in play?
The next UEFA Executive Committee scheduled for June 17 is expected to address the issue if Istanbul, however, gives up on the event which was originally scheduled to take place on May 30. Lisbon, Frankfurt and Moscow would also be ready to welcome the epilogue of the C1. A Final Four for the last four, or even a Final Eight as a quarter-final cannot be excluded.
