The triple winner made it to the second round of the DFB Cup without any problems. Against the Middle Rhine Cup winner, a new addition was particularly convincing.
Bayern Munich successfully started their title defense mission at the club’s internal debut ball in the DFB Cup. In the catch-up game of the first round, the B-team of the record champions defeated the courageous fifth division club 1. FC Düren with a lackluster 3-0 in the first appearance of several summer additions.
The goals for the weakened triple winner were scored by new strikers Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (24th and 75th) and Thomas Müller (36th, penalty kick). The brave outsider from Düren said goodbye with his head held high when he took part in his first cup and can look forward to a bonus of 137,000 euros. The second round of the cup is scheduled for December 22nd and 23rd.
Choupo-Moting was completely satisfied with his debut in the Munich jersey: “That was a nice evening. I’m happy to be in Germany again and my two goals. That was a good start.” Meanwhile, ex-world champion Müller also admitted on the Sky microphone that he was surprised by Düren’s tactics: “They copied our style of play a bit. At first we had problems with it. It didn’t feel as if there were so many classes between us would. “
FC Bayern with five newcomers in the starting line-up
Bayern coach Hansi Flick, whose team will be challenged again on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / in the live ticker at t-online) with Bundesliga promoted Arminia Bielefeld, had to do without his national players around captain Manuel Neuer, striker Robert Lewandowski or defensive boss David Alaba. For this, Alexander Nübel started in goal for the first time, before that Bouna Sarr, Marc Roca, Douglas Costa and Choupo-Moting, who were signed shortly before the transfer deadline, made their debuts.
For Düren only one motto counted: Be better “than Schalke and Barcelona”, as club boss Wolfgang Spelthahn had said in advance. FC Barcelona (2: 8) and Schalke 04 (0: 8) had gone down against the Flick-Elf in the past weeks and months.
This goal was in no danger at all for Düren, which had given up its right to stay at home. The league club showed no respect, skillfully closed the rooms, sometimes pressed six men in the Bayern penalty area and even had the first good chance after just 23 seconds.
FC Bayern lacked a vote against fifth division clubs
With the second set of the Champions League winners from Munich, however, the lack of coordination was clearly visible. The veterans Müller and Javi Martinez often had to reprimand their teammates with loud commands, the underdog from the Voreifel initially kept up well.
It took 18 minutes until the first really big Bayern opportunity, but Choupo-Moting failed because of the strong Kevin Jackmuth in the Dürener goal. Shortly afterwards, the spell was broken: the conspicuous Sarr ran away from everyone with one of his lightning-fast steps and served Choupo-Moting ideally in the center, who met for the first time in the Bayern jersey.
Striker Choupo-Moting involved in all three goals
It was also Choupo-Moting who took the penalty to make it 2-0. Returning Costa appeared for the first time shortly before the break with a nice dribble and outside kick.
Even after the break, the favorite, where talents like Jamal Musiala (17), Angelo Stiller (19), Leon Dajaku (19) or Armindo Sieb (17) were allowed to prove themselves, continued to have a hard time. Defensive gaps occasionally formed, in the offensive Choupo-Moting (57th) failed completely free-standing and Musiala (64th) on the post. A quarter of an hour before the end, Choupo-Moting rewarded himself with his second goal.
