But there are also more worrying voices. As CNN correspondent Ana Cabrera reports, citing an adviser to Trump, there is cause for concern about the state of health of the US president. “This is serious,” the source said, according to Cabrera. Trump not only suffered from tiredness and exhaustion, but also from breathing difficulties, it said. Officials initially said that Trump was showing mild symptoms. “I am optimistic that he will recover very quickly and quickly,” said Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. It later became known that Trump had been given an experimental antibody cocktail in the course of his corona infection. The infusion went without problems, said Trump’s personal physician Sean Conley on Friday. The President showed signs of fatigue, but was “in good spirits”. Trump had been examined by a team of experts with whom the further procedure would be coordinated, explained Conley. Trump is currently receiving zinc, vitamin D, the stomach drug famotidine, the sleep hormone melatonin and aspirin.

Eventually, the White House said Trump was being rushed to Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda, north of Washington. One picture shows him saluting on the way to the presidential helicopter Marine One. Later on Friday evening (local time) he finally arrived at the hospital by helicopter. This was reported by the German Press Agency, citing television images. It can be seen how he – in a suit and with face mask – left the helicopter. According to the White House, the 74-year-old will be working from the President’s office in the hospital for the next few days. It is purely a precautionary measure on the recommendation of the doctors.
Before he left, Trump recorded a short video that he published on Twitter. “I think I’m doing very well,” Trump said in the 18-second video. But he still goes to the hospital for safety. First Lady Melania is doing “very well”.
Already looked lethargic
Trump was at a campaign event in the state of Minnesota on Wednesday night. At 45 minutes, the gig was significantly shorter than his other appointments of this type, some of which lasted up to an hour and a half. On the return flight, Trump fell asleep temporarily in the presidential plane. At an event previously in one of his golf clubs, the president had already appeared lethargic, one of those present reported to the “New York Times”.
Expert: Trump may have severe symptoms next week
If Trump had severe symptoms such as respiratory problems, these would “appear in the middle of next week,” said British corona expert David Strain from the University of Exeter to the Reuters news agency. Strain assumes that Trump was only recently infected. In the case of British Prime Minister Johnson, the severe symptoms only appeared on the tenth day. However, a specific course cannot be predicted, experts told “Reuters”.
Biden tested negative
The coronavirus test on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was negative on Friday. This was announced by his doctor Kevin O’Connor. That is also the case with his wife Jill Biden. Biden and the infected incumbent Donald Trump stood on a stage in their first TV debate last Tuesday.
Melania Trump also has mild corona symptoms
First wife Melania Trump also shows slight symptoms of illness after being infected with the coronavirus. Overall, she is doing well, wrote the First Lady on Twitter on Friday. She is preparing for a speedy recovery.
Trump spokeswoman Carolina Hurley said on Twitter that both Jared Kushner and Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump tested negative.
Infection of Donald Trump and Melania Trump just a month before the US election
The US is on the home stretch for the November 3rd election, in which Trump is running for a second term. He competes against the Democrat Joe Biden. The corona pandemic, which is by no means under control in the USA, had turned the election campaign on its head anyway. In the coming days, the 74-year-old incumbent had planned numerous appearances, some of them large events. Despite the pandemic, thousands of followers had taken part in such events in recent weeks.

Trump adviser was also infected with Corona
On Thursday evening it was first announced that Trump’s close advisor Hope Hicks had tested positive for the virus. Trump himself confirmed the infection of his employee in an interview with Fox News and said that he and Melania had been tested. Hicks had traveled to the side of the president in the past few days: on Tuesday for the TV debate between Trump and Biden in Cleveland, on Wednesday for an election campaign appearance in the US state of Minnesota.
In photos from Wednesday, Hicks was seen at the Joint Base Andrews military airfield outside the presidential helicopter Marine One, in close proximity to Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Neither of them wore mouth and nose protection. She was also with other employees of the President. At first it was unclear whether other people around him had been infected.
Several people from the Trump environment tested positive
One month before the US election, Trump’s campaign chief Bill Stepien also tested positive for the corona virus. The election campaign team confirmed a report by Politico magazine from late Friday evening (local time). Stepien received his diagnosis on Friday evening and had mild, flu-like symptoms. He keeps control of the campaign from his home office.
Earlier in the day it became known that Republican party leader Ronna McDaniel had also contracted the virus.
The former high-ranking advisor to US President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, has also contracted the corona virus. Conway wrote on Twitter that she tested positive for the corona virus on Friday evening. She has mild symptoms – a slight cough – and feels fine. You have started the quarantine in consultation with doctors.
Event in the garden of the White House: More than 100 people in a confined space
The presentation of Trump’s candidate for the US Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett, in the garden of the White House on Saturday has received increased attention. There, more than 100 people gathered in a small space, and photos and video recordings show that many did not wear masks and did not keep their distance. Corona tests have been positive for at least six of those present: In addition to Trump, his wife Melania and ex-advisor Conway, these are Senators Mike Lee and Thom Tillis and the President of the Catholic University of Notre Dame, John Jenkins.

First Lady Melania Trump appeals to US citizens
“Like far too many other Americans this year, the President of the United States and I are in quarantine at home after testing positive for Covid-19. We are fine and I have canceled all upcoming commitments,” wrote Melania Trump Friday morning on twitter. “Please take care of yourselves and we will all get through this together.”
A White House spokesman, Judd Deere, said on request on Thursday evening: “The President takes the health and safety of himself and everyone who works for him and the American people very seriously.” Both when traveling and in the White House, the CDC’s current guidelines and proven measures to reduce the risk of infection are followed, the statement said.

Trump spokeswoman had described wearing masks as a “personal decision”
But in the corona pandemic, Trump is repeatedly accused of not taking the threat posed by the virus seriously. He usually does not wear a mask in public and has repeatedly made derogatory comments about his challenger Biden wearing masks – most recently on Tuesday.
Trump and the White House always cited the reason that the President and his environment were regularly tested for the corona virus. Trump’s spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany described wearing masks in June as a “personal decision” and pointed out that she would be tested regularly.
At the beginning of May it became known that the press secretary of US Vice President Mike Pence, Katie Miller, had become infected. In late July, White House National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien tested positive.
Trump reaps malice from China after corona infection
Shortly after US President Donald Trump announced that he and his wife Melania were infected with the corona virus, Trump was already receiving criticism from China. The state-run Chinese newspaper “China Daily” describes Trump’s positive test as “another reminder that the coronavirus is spreading further, even if Trump has tried desperately to suggest that it is no longer a danger”.
The report goes on to say, “Since it became known earlier this year, Trump, the White House and his campaign have downplayed the threat and refused to follow basic public health guidelines – including those issued by his own administration.”
US President Trump and First Lady infected with Corona: Biden wishes you a speedy recovery
Following the report, there was a flood of recovery wishes from all over the world. Trump’s opponent Joe Biden also agreed and wished Trump and his wife a “speedy recovery”.
EU Council President Charles Michel has also wished them both a speedy recovery. Michel wrote on Twitter on Friday: “Covid-19 is a battle that we keep fighting. Every day. No matter where we live.”
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson followed suit. “My best wishes to President Trump and the First Lady. I hope they both get well again quickly,” wrote Johnson on Twitter on Friday.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife also spoke up: “Like millions of Israelis, Sara and I are in our minds with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. We wish our friends a full and speedy recovery.”
