A penalty shootout resulted in the winners of 3 of the 8 semi-finals of the Euro 2020 play-offs.
Hungary-Iceland (the winner will meet Portugal, France and Germany), Northern Ireland-Slovakia, Serbia-Scotland and Georgia-North Macedonia, here are the 4 play-off finals for Euro 2020. As a reminder, the Nations League 2018-2019 has defined the 4 “Final Four” offering the last 4 tickets for the European Championship which will take place in 12 cities next year (June 11-July 11).
The two matches of the B league offered a rather improbable outcome since the 4 teams played 120 minutes without being able to decide. The Northern Irish finally eliminated the Bosnians of Miralem Pjanic and Edin Dzeko (1-1, 3 tab to 4), as the Slovaks edged out the Irish (0-0, 4 tab to 2), depriving the island of a derby. The final will be played in Belfast on November 12, and the winner will fall in Group E of Spain, Sweden and Poland.
Serbia in the other group of death?
Regarding “route C”, no winner has been chosen after 90 minutes either! Serbia, with a brace from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, eventually won in Norway (1-2, ap), as Scotland’s Scott McTominay won their penalty shootout against Israel (0-0, 5 tab to 3). In Belgrade next month, the surviving squad will challenge England, Croatia and the Czech Republic at the Euro.
Finally, in the barrage of the 4th European division, the Georgians beat the Belarusians (1-0) and will receive in the final of this barrage the Macedonians led by Goran Pandev, scorers from Kosovo (2-1). The Netherlands, Ukraine and Austria are awaiting the name of their last opponent in Pool C of Euro 2020.
