FC Bayern Munich won a crazy game against Hertha BSC 4-3. Things went back and forth in the Allianz Arena, but in the end FC Bayern had the better end on their side – thanks to match winner Lewandowski.
Successful Sunday for FC Bayern Munich: Thanks to four-time goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, the German record champions are back on track in the Bundesliga, and the club apparently made the much-needed breakthrough on the transfer market shortly before the changeover period expired on Monday. First of all, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic announced that the Spaniard Marc Roca had changed. The Quintuple winner then won a crazy game 4: 3 (1: 0) against Hertha BSC thanks to Europe’s Footballer of the Year and moved up to third place in the table.
Flick: “Missing a few percent”
The strong Lewandowski (40th, 51st, 85th and 90th + 3 / penalty kick) rewarded the clearly superior Munich team with his season two, three, four and five goals for their persistence against an uncomfortable Berlin team, the European Footballer of the Year and demanded everything from his highly decorated team-mates before the international break. In the second half, the courageous guests through Jhon Cordoba (59th), the strong Matheus Cunha (71st) and Jessic Ngankam (88th) took advantage of carelessness in the Munich back team before Lewandowski secured the well-deserved victory in the final sprint.
“At the moment a few percent are missing. And 90 or 95 percent are not enough against a team like Hertha BSC,” complained coach Hansi Flick after the game. “But what makes me happy, and we are at 100 percent, is the mentality, the will to win, that is there. That is what we have shown in the past ten months.”
Shortly before the game, FC Bayern had confirmed Marc Roca’s commitment. The 23-year-old Spaniard, who is to replace Thiago, who has migrated to Liverpool in the long term, will receive a contract until 2025. The defensive midfielder comes from first division relegated Espanyol Barcelona and costs nine million euros.
Richards with starting eleven debut
In addition, the Munich are apparently close to the commitment of Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, who would come free of charge from Paris St. Germain. Allegedly nine million euros cost Bouna Sarr from Olympique Marseille. Sarr is designated as deputy to world champion Benjamin Pavard for the position of right full-back.
On Sunday, Chris Richards made his starting eleven debut in the Bundesliga – the young American played solidly until he was substituted (65th). After the 3-2 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Supercup, Flick also rotated David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry into the team – the trained attacker Alphonso Davies replaced the injured Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman on the left wing.
Davies was rarely able to stand up against poisonous and initially well-stocked Berliners, and he and his teammates rarely found a gap in the guests’ defense. Finally Lewandowski overcame the good Alexander Schwolow, who had saved a shot from Poland seconds earlier, with his head. It was the third goal of the game, but the first that counted: The goals from Cordoba (15th) and Thomas Müller (36th) were disallowed because of offside, but only video assistant Frank Willenborg saw this with Müller.
Bayern only had a few good opportunities, but controlled the game for a long time. Only after Lewandowski’s second goal did concentration slow down a bit, but in a crazy final phase the Pole secured the deserved victory after the equalizer.
The coach also acknowledged that: “We all know that Robert is an absolute scorer and wants to score goals in every game. It is important to me that he brings the other elements into team sport that are important: hang up, work against the ball. He’s doing it, so I’m completely satisfied with him, “said Hansi Flick.
