According to Catalan television, the failure of FC Barcelona to sign Memphis Depay is due to a veto from the Spanish Football League. Blame it on too much payroll.
The summer transfer window did not take the turn expected by the FC Barcelona. After having completed, very early, a disguised exchange to attract Miralem Pjanic then chained by recruiting Trincao, Matheus Fernandes or Pedri before attracting Sergino Dest, the Blaugrana were unable to finalize the arrivals of Memphis depay or Eric Garcia, however set up as a priority by Ronald Koeman and the Barcelona leaders.
But according to the news on TV3, if the vice-champions of Spain did not achieve their goals, it is because of the Spanish League. The latter would thus have opposed the arrival of Memphis Depay when all parties had reached an agreement with theOlympique Lyonnais with a transfer fee of only 5 million euros, with a bonus of 10 million. But for the Spanish League, the signing of the Lyon captain would have earned Barça to exceed the salary cap authorized by LFP.
This information is however surprising. Because while the Blaugrana have indeed attracted five new players, Barcelona’s summer was marked by weight loss. Many players have left, some of whom were among the club’s top-earners like Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, and even Arturo Vidal or Nelson Semedo.
