Due to lack of agreement with interested clubs, Houssem Aouar and Memphis Depay will remain in Lyon this season. At least that’s what Jean-Michel Aulas’s club said on Saturday.
The ultimatum was set. If things were not bent this Friday at midnight, then the players likely to leave Olympique Lyonnais would stay this season at Groupama Stadium. Houssem Aouar and Memphis depay (in particular), having not found a concrete way out, they will therefore continue to wear the OL jersey for a few more months.
According to an indiscretion of L’Equipe revealed this Saturday, the desires elsewhere of the two players will not be satisfied. If Depay has fed the gazettes of the transfer window with the avowed interest of his Dutch compatriot, and no less coach of Barça Ronald Koeman, Aouar has meanwhile been cited on the side of Arsenal, Juventus, Real Madrid, and quite recently of Paris Saint Germain.
What about motivation?
But no signing has taken place and the two key players from Lyon should therefore continue the adventure with Rudi Garcia’s squad. It remains to be seen, however, what their mood will be in the face of this news, and whether they will manage to stay involved with a club they thought they could leave. We must also not completely exclude a turnaround if a last minute offer (and which cannot be refused), lands on the desk of Jean-Michel Aulas.
