Berlin (dpa) – Borussia Dortmund has at least postponed the 30th German football championship for Bayern with a last minute victory.
The leader from Munich maintained the 2-1 (1-1) home win over fourth-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday evening, but had a seven-point advantage over BVB and can perfect the eighth championship title in a row on Tuesday in Bremen. The Revierclub prevailed on Matchday 31 at relegation candidate Fortuna Düsseldorf thanks to a late goal 1-0 (0-0).
In the relegation duel at SC Paderborn, Werder Bremen celebrated a sovereign 5: 1 (3: 0) victory and brought East Westphalia close to second-rate. In the fight against relegation, the 1st FC Union Berlin achieved a liberation blow with the 2: 1 (1: 0) success at the 1st FC Cologne. Eintracht Frankfurt won 4: 1 (0: 1) at Hertha BSC, VfL Wolfsburg and SC Freiburg separated 2: 2 (2: 1).
Leon Goretzka brought the record champion in Munich in the 86th minute with the winning goal a big step closer to the new championship title. Joshua Zirkzee (26th), who represented suspended Robert Lewandowski, took the lead. Benjamin Pavard (37) scored the Gladbacher equalizer by own goal.

In a duel between two teams still victorious after the Corona break, Union equalized with Cologne on points. Marvin Friedrich (39.) and Christian Gentner (67.) ensured Köpenicker’s first success since the end of February. Jhon Cordoba (90th) only succeeded in connecting. With a seven-point lead over Düsseldorf, the final class remains for both promoters within reach.
Against the direct rival Freiburg, Wolfsburg missed the great opportunity to make a decisive difference in the race for the Europa League places. Shortly before and shortly after the break, Freiburg’s Lucas Höler (43th minute) and Roland Sallai (46th) equalized Wout Weghorst’s two goals (14th / 27th / foul).
Hertha could hope against Frankfurt after the 1-0 lead by Krzysztof Piątek (24th) on a leap towards Europa League places. However, the game tipped after red for Dedryck Boyata (45. + 1). Thanks to the goals of Bas Dost (51.), André Silva (62./86.) And Evan Ndicka (68.) Eintracht passed the Berliners in mid-table.
